The Beauty of Games

This is one of those books that I really wanted to love, but it felt so long even for such a short book.

Lantz’s argument is that games are art, and should be analyzed and considered as such. I agree! The thesis has stuck with me and informed much of my thinking on worldbuilding and cultural production over the last few months. However, I didn’t get a ton of value from the medium itself. In other words, this should have been an incredible essay, not a decent book.

Alas, it’s worth a skim, and Lantz’s tone and passion throughout the book is palpable enough to get you through it if you desire.
