L.M. Sacasas is known today for his writing on The Convivial Society, a Substack about technology and society. Before this newsletter, his writing was focused more specifically on tech ethics and lives on his blog, The Frailest Thing. This book is a compilation of what he considers his best essays.
It took me a few days to work through, and I couldn’t put it down.
You could see the rich intellectual tradition that Sacasas pulls from in his ideas, but given that the book is aligned topically rather than chronologically, you can also see that Sacasas has clear favorites. There are scholars and writers that he pulls from consistently when making certain arguments, which led me down a targeted rabbithole of reading for the topics I was most interested in.
Sacasas has deeply influenced my thinking on tech and media ethics, and I already find myself coming back to his essays almost daily in my writing.
